SEMA Award for Best First Book

Prize: $200 gift certificate from Scholar’s Choice

Eligibility: All SEMA members in good standing who have completed their first book in a field
of medieval scholarship. Books may be nominated within five years of publication.

Nomination: Nominations may be made by fellow members of SEMA in good standing, by
colleagues, or by self-nomination. Self-nomination is highly encouraged.

Nominees for this award should send the following materials to the SEMA president by the
award deadline:

• a current CV
• the book’s introduction and an additional chapter (as PDFs)
• at least 1 but no more than 2 published reviews of the book (as PDFs)

Please do not include additional items such as cover letters or letters of recommendation.
Additional materials will not be considered.

DEADLINES:

Nominations are due by August 15th and submission of materials by September 15th. Please be aware that any additional materials not listed will not be considered by the committee. Nominations should be emailed to the SEMA president.

NOMINATIONS: Nominations should be made as soon as possible to give maximum time to
nominees to gather materials. Self-nomination is highly encouraged. Those who self-nominate
need only send the materials by Sept. 15th.
